Fuller asks for bench trial

Former VCU Police Chief William B. Fuller waived his trial by jury today at Chesterfield County Circuit Court. Fuller asked and was granted a bench trial on July 8, meaning that it will be heard before a sitting judge with no jury present.
Fuller faces three felony charges: one for attempted indecent liberties with a minor and two for use of an electronic device to solicit a minor. He was arrested Jan. 28 for a chat room conversation with an undercover cop who was posing as a 14-year-old girl. Allegedly, Fuller used the screen name "Hotcop2006," in an attempt to solicit pictures of the 14-year-old's genitals.
Fuller served as police chief for VCU from 2000 until his arrest, where he was placed on administrative leave without pay. At the time of Fuller's arrest, he was in charge of a police force numbering approximately 400, including 82 police officers. He is no longer employed by VCU, and Capt. Carlton Edwards is now serving as active chief of the VCU Police Department.
