The character of James Bond is deeply rooted in American Culture. Lines such as "Shaken, not stirred" are so common that people who have never seen the source material are able to identify where the quote came from. Including Quantum of Solace, which was released last Friday, the film series has 22 installments making it the second largest series in the world second only to the Japanese Godzilla (with 28 installments) Yet with such a long history, it is understandable that at times parts of the series might be confusing.

Today, when there are so many successful spy movies (The Bourne trilogy or Mission Impossible series) it's possible to write off the latest 007 movie as nothing more than one of dozens of 007 movies, thinking that if you miss this one you can always catch the next one in a few years.

Bats endangered by offshore wind farms

Late one night in the summer of 2007, three interns pull rubber waders up to their chests, strap LED lamps to their heads and wade through a swampy stream in Basking Ridge, N.J., toward the mist nets. They are following the blond pony tail of Marilyn Kitchell as it swishes back and forth just above its own rippling reflection. As the first rays of the moon make the dew-draped hickory leaves begin to glow, a tiny, dark figure careens across the edge of their lights, and they just barely make out a winged fur smudge collide head first into the nothingness and float, delicately suspended in the midnight air.

Evolution. Mention that word in most public schools around this country and it will be treated with heated arguments from both sides of the issue. Did man evolve from the ape? Were we created in this image that we survive in today? Though that fact is debatable and has been through the court systems 100 times over, the fact that James Bond, Her majesty's number one super secret agent, has gone through intense evolution in his 22-movie span is not debatable.
